The #ReadingMindsGla book club celebrates its 6-month anniversary!

Sometimes a coffee break can lead to great things: 6 months ago, the three founding members of the Reading Minds book club started chatting next to the coffee machine... 6 books, a successful Burns Night event and many insightful discussions later we look forward to welcoming new members at our upcoming monthly meetings!

By means of a democratic voting system, we have come across a very diverse selection of books: from autobiographical novels to dystopian science fiction – there is something for everyone.

So far we have read and discussed “Educated” (Tara Westover), “Milkman” (Anna Burns), “Ordinary People” (Diana Evans), “Poverty Safari” (Glasgow’s Darren McGarvey), “How to be both” (Ali Smith),  and “The Left Hand of Darkness” (Ursula LeGuin).

Our February book will be UofG graduate Gail Honeyman’s “Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine”.

If you would like to join our next meeting on the 6th of February, subscribe to our mailing list via the intranet (bookclub@psy.gla.ac.uk) or send an email to Anna.Henschel@glasgow.ac.uk. We also chat about our books on Twitter using the hashtag: #ReadingMindsGla.

Fret not if you can’t finish next month’s book in time: we always announce the following two, so there is plenty of time to listen to the audiobook or only join for the ones you are interested in (our March book will be “The Silence of the Girls” by Pat Barker). The book club has also been declared a judgement-free zone, so members who haven’t had time to catch up with the book and are just interested in listening in on the discussion (and enjoyoing the snacks) are warmly invited as well.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our next meetings!
