Biography
Professor Melville graduated in medicine from the University of Glasgow BSc (Hons) in 1990 gaining an MBChB in 1993. After completing higher specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry and Learning Disabilities Psychiatry in 2003, he completed a higher degree (MD, University of Glasow 2010). His current post is at the Glasgow University Centre for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.
Since 2004, he has been joint coordinator of the BSc (Clinical Medicine) in Psychological Medicine.
Professor Melville is a trustee of The Scottish Consortium for Learning Disabilities and is involved in several strands of work with the Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network (SIGN).

1. Supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities to make healthy choices
Walk well a randomised controlled trial of a walking intervention for adults with intellectual disabilities, in collaboration with Professor Nanette Murie, University of Edinburgh and Professor Kirsten Stalker, University of Strathclyde.
Welldo a randomised controlled trial of a weight management intervention for adults with learning disabilities and obesity, in collaboration with Dr Catherine Hankey, University of Glasgow.
Get Active Be Healthy a multi-component physical activity intervention for children with intellectual disabilities, in collaboration with Mrs Victoria Penpraze, University of Glasgow.
