We are committed to equality and diversity not only because it is right, but also because it is essential to our capacity to put together successful interdisciplinary research teams. Different people bring different strengths to these teams, exceptional researchers come in very different forms, and they work and contribute in very different ways. We need to maintain a staff profile that is balanced and values the full range of research talent in all its different guises.
Athena SWAN Silver Award
Our commitment to equality and diversity was recognised by an Athena SWAN Silver departmental award in October 2016, which followed our Bronze award in May 2014. This award demonstrates our continuing and evolving commitment to best practice in recruiting and supporting the career development and progression of female scientists in IBAHCM [link to IBAHCM women in science], addressing gender inequalities in higher education. It also reflects the clear culture of our Institute in which we seek to attract the most creative, imaginative, and collegiate researchers to join us, and do so by providing a vibrant, dynamic, personally supportive and empathetic research environment.
