Sustainability Spotlight, Apr 2021 - The Circular Fashion Ecosystem Project

Prof Deirdre Shaw and Dr Kat Duffy of the Adam Smith Business School are already stars of the UofG sustainability firmament with their work on the circular economy and sustainable fashion. As well as the fascinating research and public engagement noted in our College of Social Sciences Sustainability Highlights, they were finalists in the latest Green Gown Awards for Digitalising Sustainable Consumption.

They are now named consultants on a flagship British Fashion Council Institute of Positive Fashion (IPF) project called The Circular Fashion Ecosystem. As part of London Fashion Week this year, the project was launched via an online conversation, which you can view below.

The project's aim is to focus on the creation of a circular fashion economy in the UK. it is a collaboration between industry, academia and government to inform and implement change. The key programme objectives are:

  • To accelerate industry-wide ability for textile recycling in the UK.
  • To make the UK a major fashion “revalue” centre within the global industry.
  • To influence consumer behaviour into adopting responsible consumption habits.

Prof Shaw is an Associate Director of the Centre for Sustainable Solutions, so we'll be well placed to update you on this project's progress!
