SUERC Timeline

  • 1963: Scottish Research Reactor Centre (SRRC) is established;
  • 1968: NERC S&F laboratory capacity added;
  • 1970: SRRC becomes SURRC as five universities form a consortium to jointly fund and manage the research centre;
  • 1986: SURRC establishes a Luminescence Dating Laboratory and welcomes its second 14C lab with the move of the UofG Radiocarbon lab to East Kilbride;
  • 1997: Nuclear reactor decommisioned and restructured to form the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre;
  • 2002: SUERC welcomes state-of-the-art 5MV tandem AMS
  • 2015: MAT 253 Ultra isotope ratio mass spectrometer is delivered;
  • 2023: SUERC celebrates 60 years.
