The Catholic Teacher's Certificate in Religious Education

The St Andrew's Foundation offers the Catholic Teacher's Certificate to Undergraduate students at the University of Glasgow, PGDE students at the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Strathclyde and Aberdeen and to qualified teachers in Scotland and beyond.

Students who wish to graduate with the Catholic Teacher’s Certificate in Religious Education (CTC) alongside their undergraduate degree or post-graduate diploma must fulfill the following conditions.

 M. Educ

  • Successful completion of all academic work in the programme
  • Satisfactory completion of designated tasks in Year 4 School Experience –including an observed Religious Education lesson
  • Satisfactory attendance at Catholic Teacher Formation classes over the four years of the degree

 Post-graduate Diploma in Education (Primary/Secondary)

  • Successful completion of all academic work in the programme
  • Satisfactory completion of an assessed journal of Religious Education tasks
  • Satisfactory grade in an observed Religious Education lesson (Primary and RE (Spec) only)
  • Satisfactory completion of school experience in the teaching of Religious Education as assessed by school partners (RE Generalists only)

 MA in Religious and Philosophical Education

  • Successful completion of all academic work in the programme
  • Satisfactory grade in an observed Religious Education lesson in year 4.
  • Satisfactory attendance at Catholic Teacher Formation classes over the four years of the degree

Setting Out On The Road

  • Successful completion of this course leads to the award of the Catholic Teacher’s Certificate (CTC)

Certificate in Religious Education by Distance-Learning (CREDL)

  • Successful completion of both courses in this online programme leads to the award of the Certificate in Religious Education (Distance Learning)

Concurrent ITE Courses (B.Tech.Ed, BEd. Music and MA (Crichton campus))

  • Successful completion of all academic work in the programme
  • Successful completion of online courses in CTC
  • Satisfactory completion of an assessed journal of Religious Education tasks
