The Scottish Alliance for Food (SCAF) sees an opportunity to further explore the role citizens can play in food-related research, contributing to the urgent need of transformation for health, sustainability and equity, and public understanding of associated topics by forming an Academy of Citizens Panel. We are looking to pilot (or trial) a panel of citizens.

We are looking to include a broad range of representation in the Academy of Citizens Panel, including those with lived experience of managing health conditions that impact dietary choices, those with disabilities and people who are providing care for family and/or household member(s).

At this time, we are specifically seeking applications from people who have not had a role or position in the food industry, or in food-related research.

What can I expect if I apply to join the Academy of Citizens Panel?

  • The Academy of Citizen Panel will be active for a period of twelve months, with approximately nine meetings, total. Meetings will take place online, lasting for two-hours.
  • Panel members will be invited to take part in training to understand SCAF’s work and the place of research within it. We would like to understand more about members’ needs and ambitions in this area.
  • The panel will be invited to contribute and/or feedback on ongoing or planned research projects – such participation, above and beyond the nine meetings outlined above, is optional.
  • Panel members will work with the SCAF team to shape the programme of activities linked to research related to food.
  • Panel members will receive an honorarium for the time committed (up to £75 for each meeting, including meeting preparation, in form of a bank-transfer or shop voucher).
