Scottish Alliance for Food

Cindy Gray

Cindy is a social scientist with expertise in understanding the behaviours that shape our health and wellbeing. Her work focuses on designing and evaluating interventions that support positive lifestyle changes including eating and physical activity. She does this by drawing on social science theory alongside different types of evidence, including lived experience. This approach has led her to work closely with diverse communities and population groups, exploring not just what changes behaviour, but how to make those changes lasting and meaningful.

SCAF has played a pivotal role in supporting my research in multiple ways. From facilitating valuable networking opportunities to enabling involvement in grant applications, pump-priming awards, and writing retreats, its impact has been wide-ranging. A particular highlight has been leading the Academy of Citizens (AoC), which has opened up exciting new interdisciplinary collaborations. Through this work, I’ve had the opportunity to engage closely with a diverse and dedicated group of people, deepening our collective understanding of how and why food matters in people’s lives.
