ISAC³ is a developing cross-disciplinary research centre focused on integrated sensing, communication, and computing for the creation of Cognitive Cities. We have a vision of a world where cities can sense, understand, compute, and respond intelligently to the needs of people, infrastructure, and the environment.

The Centre’s mission is to lead research into the integration of sensing, communication, computing, and data-driven intelligence, working with universities, industry, city authorities, and public sector organisations to create urban systems that are more resilient, efficient, and human-centred.

The Centre’s aims are

  • To advance the understanding of how sensing, communication, and computing technologies can be combined to support intelligent urban environments, linking insights from engineering, data science, and the social sciences into a unified framework.
  • To develop and test new technologies in real world urban settings, ensuring that research outputs are practical, scalable, and aligned with the needs of cities and communities.
  • To work with industry and public sector partners to translate research into deployable solutions that improve mobility, sustainability, public services, and quality of life.
  • To build the scientific and technical foundations required to realise Cognitive Cities, where digital infrastructure, computing systems, and human systems evolve together to support more adaptive and inclusive urban futures.

Through collaborative research, industry co-development, and real-world demonstration, ISAC³ connects academic excellence with city and industry needs. By integrating sensing, communication, and computing into shared urban platforms, the Centre enables cities to become more resilient, sustainable, and responsive to the people who live and work in them.
