Infrastructure and services
The University of Glasgow provides a range of shared infrastructure and technical services designed to support data-driven research. This ecosystem combines advanced hardware, high-performance computing clusters, and immersive visualisation facilities, alongside access to external IT platforms. The university supports its infrastructure capabilities with software engineering expertise and managed computing services.
Research Computing as a Service (RCaaS)
RCaaS delivers a wide range of computing support, tailored to meet the needs of the University's research communities.
RCaaS provides services that facilitate and create many benefits for our research communities: freeing up researchers' time to focus on their research; expanding research capabilities and expertise across the university; providing equal access to critical tools and methods for research; and helping build career opportunities for those supporting software, data and infrastructure engineering roles.
ARC-XR
ARC-XR is a cutting edge collection of resources and studio space. Focusing on research and applications of Extended Reality (XR) - an all-encompassing term for immersive technology, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) – the space brings together researchers and students to collaborate with external partners to develop world leading research and explore new opportunities arising from visualisation technology.
As one of the largest XR studios in the UK, it provides unique opportunities to push the boundaries of XR research.
High Performance Computing Clusters
The University has various High Performance Compute clusters (HPCC) that are available for supporting researchers with their computational requirements. These include College and School specific platforms as well as those available for more general use.
