You are welcome to attend this one-day postgraduate conference sponsored by BASEES (British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies) and CRCEES (Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies).

Hungary is a dynamic political and cultural space that has been in constant transformation since 1989, particularly since 2010 where political and civil developments have attracted considerable international attention. Although the country’s current political trajectory has already invited a great deal of commentary, further critical analysis is required and a wealth of research is being conducted by current postgraduate students on the social, political and cultural aspects of Hungary's present.

This need for a renewed discussion on Hungary that critically reflects on existing discourses forms the basis of this postgraduate conference, with papers covering a variety of interesting topics such as civil society, corruption and democratic regression in the Hungarian state; language learning and politics, identity and memory in contemporary literature; education in the Roma communityand national identity building.
