Worrying about being able to afford food is more prevalent in more deprived households. A food systems approach is required to understand and propose solutions to adopt affordable, sustainable diets.
Using qualitative methods, we will explore the factors underpinning household's food journeys. This will be used to understand and contextualise what drives diet inequalities. This approach will allow the co-design and delivery of a community-led food market. We will innovate the community market concept by incorporating art and food literacy to the traditional food market, where we aim to promote equity and sustainable dietary change.
We are working with communities using an interdisciplinary and intersectoral food systems approach. Our work is informed by national policy under the umbrella of the Glasgow City Food Plan and the National Good Food Nation Plan. Our intersectoral collaboration will facilitate community access and engagement.
Our vision is that communities have local access to affordable, healthful sustainable diets. We will measure the impact of our approach, to generate evidence to expand this concept to other localities in Glasgow and beyond.
