Abstract
This project examines whether some Scottish learners show stronger computational problem-solving skills than their mathematics attainment scores might suggest. Using PISA 2025 data, it will investigate whether these patterns vary by socio-economic background. The study will explore what such differences might reveal about how mathematical capability is recognised and assessed. By bringing these different forms of performance into view, the project aims to contribute a new perspective on equity and future-oriented mathematics education in Scotland.
