Parental Interventions

The underrepresentation of women in computing has received considerable attention. Numerous research has explored the causes and factors influencing women’s low participation in this field. The focus of the proposed research is twofold: (1) to contribute to strategies for attracting girls into computing through the lens of parental encouragement and parents' enlightenment program. (2) to understand computing teachers' encouragement strategies and how they influence women's participation in computing. Indeed, Parental encouragement and teachers' influence are central to children’s career decisions. Parents have more influence on children's career decisions, followed by the teachers, which is well established in the literature on career development. Reinforcement from parents and teachers may help children transform their lives by encouraging them to choose a career path they previously thought was unattainable.
