Short Description

The course provides the postgraduate student with academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to develop their skills in diagnosing endodontic problems and to provide appropriate treatment to endodontic patients. During the course, students will be asked to demonstrate a range of clinical and technical skills relating to multidisciplinary patient treatment care.

Timetable

Teaching will consist of endodontic pre-clinical/ clinical treatment sessions, research/ audit sessions, didactic teaching seminars, critical reading seminars and endodontic diagnostic clinic sessions.

Course Aims

To provide the postgraduate with academic knowledge and clinical skills to enable them to:

■ assess the needs, treatment plan, and organise appropriate immediate and subsequent treatment for patients requiring acute endodontic treatment

■ assess the needs, treatment options, and organise appropriate subsequent treatment for endodontic patients requiring assessment with other dental specialties

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students will be able to critically analyse and:

 

■ demonstrate knowledge in the importance of good (dental) teamwork in the provision of care for patients with endodontic diseases

 

■ to identify the technological processes involved in the restoration of endodontically treated teeth

 

■ apply critical analysis to the prevalence, pathogenesis, and Restorative considerations of root canal treatment procedures

 

■ demonstrate competence in applying appropriate root canal treatment procedures

 

■ clearly describe the principles of emergency and subsequent treatment in dento-alveolar trauma

 

■ demonstrate knowledge of the principles of diagnosis and treatment planning of periodontal-endodontic interfaces

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
