3-week module: “EU Environmental Policy in the context of the EU enlargement” (12-21 October)

The course was delivered to a group of 14 students and covered the issues of construction of the EU Environmental Policy, main developments (starting from the Rome Treaty) and the challenges arising from the EU Eastern Enlargement of 2004, 2007 and 2013. During the course students discussed the major environmental  policy areas and challenges regarding sectoral legislation in the areas of air, water, waste and nature, difficulties in negotiation of the environmental chapters of the accession agreements. Role of the society and non-state actors (non-governmental organisations, lobby groups) was also analysed while students prepared group project and presented case studies from the New Member States and the EU candidate countries.

Students at ADA were very motivated, eager to research new areas and clearly took a lot from working in the international project groups – sharing ideas and experiences, that I believe enriched not only the final presentations they have prepared but also their personal skills.
