Dr Réka Várnagy, Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary - to Western University, Ontario, Canada: 01 - 28 September 2014

• Public lecture: „Endangered species” The fate of political parties in Hungary • Guest lecture in ’Leadership’ course: Leadership in post-communist countries – the case of Hungary

Her research goal was to develop further her research agenda on party leadership based on an extensive literature review completed at Western library and on discussions with Western colleagues working on the topic. During her stay, Réka Várnagy engaged in various professional activities including giving a public lecture about contemporary Hungarian politics with a special focus on parties and the Hungarian party system. She also familiarized herself with the educational program at Western by both attending classes on ‘Extreme Leadership’ (instructor: Dr. Cristine de Clercy) and contributing to course by talking about communist and post-communist leadership issues.

The University of Western Ontario offers an excellent opportunity for visiting scholars to learn more about the extensive research in political science conducted by Western colleagues, to engage in the professional activities of the university as well as to gain insight into its bursting student life.  Accessing the rich pool scientific resources through the campus library proved to be a valuable asset during her stay. The open and friendly atmosphere of the campus, the welcoming staff of the Department of Political Science made my stay at Western a wonderful experience!
