Research title: Negative Sexual Experiences with the Use of Dating Apps among Lesbian & Queer Women
Research Summary
Dating apps are a popular way to seek sexual and/or romantic connections. While providing opportunities for interpersonal connections, dating apps are also being used as tools to facilitate sexual and gender violence. This project aims to understand lesbian and queer women's lived experiences of sexual violence on dating apps through the lens of "the continuum of sexual violence" by Liz Kelly. This project will examine how their experiences of online intrusion are shaped by the affordances of dating apps and the social and cultural scripts of gender, sexuality, power and control.
