Research title: Reducing gendered health and wealth inequalities in Scotland

Research Summary

Biography

I graduated with a degree in Politics and Social and Public Policy in 2023 and in 2024 graduated with a first class MSc in Global Health, both from the University of Glasgow.

Current Research & Interests

My PhD will use systems science methods to highlight the health experiences of multiply disadvantaged women in Scotland and explore potential policy action. Specifically, my research will focus on the intersection of female gender, childhood adversity and low income. My project will examine the socio-economic and health outcomes experienced by this group, contributing to the broader field of health inequalities research by demonstrating how systemic disparities manifest within marginalised populations.

My research interests are health inequalities, the socio-economic determinants of health, multiple disadvantage/intersectional inequalities and the power of qualitative methods and including marginalised voices in public health research.

I am currently part of the Systems Science Programme.

Previous Research

I previously conducted a qualitative study which compared the health impact of the cost of living crisis between students from financially secure and low-income backgrounds. I have also conducted a secondary data analysis of the effect of the Welfare Reform Act 2012 on Quality of Life in the UK for socio-economically deprived groups.
