Research title: COASTAL MULTI RISK ASSESSMENT AND THE APPLICATION OF DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM (DSS)

Research Summary

This project aims to quantify the risk of multi-hazards in one of Indonesia's urban coastal areas (Dumai). Dumai was selected as the research area because it is one of the busiest coastal areas on Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Along with the activities associated with the national and international shipping line, they are also involved in a variety of industrial activities (petroleum, timber, cement, etc.) as well as other anthropogenic activities (settlement, tourism, etc.). At the same time, the effect of Sea Level Rise (SLR) from Malacca Strait will increase the vulnerability of Dumai to a number of hazards. I will focus on water-related hazards, such as shoreline change, land subsidence, and coastal flooding. Ultimately, this study will provide a quantitative assessment of multi-hazard risk based on the interaction between hazard and other risk components.
