Halcrow Group funds new Transportation professorship

The international civil engineering company Halcrow Group has funded a new professorship in transportation at the University of Glasgow.

The Chair of Transportation is being part-funded by the firm with £150,000 over a five-year period and will play a key role in the development of a new transportation group at the University, providing teaching and developing new collaborative research activities.

Professor Simon Wheeler, Head of Civil Engineering said: "We are very grateful to Halcrow Group for helping to fund this position which we hope will also benefit the company through the graduates and research produced in the field of civil engineering, and particularly with regard to transportation infrastructure and planning."

Neil Johnstone, Halcrow’s Regional Managing Director commented: "We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with the University of Glasgow and to help create a centre of excellence in proximity to our established Glasgow office from which we deliver transportation solutions from planning and design through to asset management. "

"Halcrow is pleased to be investing in this strong area of our business that encompasses all transport modes across the spectrum from road to rail."

"As society must respond to the challenge of maintaining essential mobility of people and goods while addressing the imperative of carbon reduction, the proposed collaboration will be well-placed to become a respected source for relevant research and its practical application."
