The excellence of service provided by Library staff has been recognised by the Times Higher Education (THE) with a nomination for its Leadership and Management Awards 2010.

The Times Higher Education (THE) awards are the most coveted prizes in UK higher education and the winners of the Leadership and Management Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony on 17 June at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London .

Helen Durndell, Head of Library Services, said: "I am pleased to have this external recognition of the excellent teamwork applied every day by staff working in the library, together with the support of staff in other departments, such as Estates and Buildings.

“Our submission covered all aspects of library work - ranging from the Library on Demand YouTube videos, the long opening hours, Enlighten (our institutional research repository) - as well as the most recent refurbishment on Level 3 which has been full of hardworking students since it opened."

Over the past 10 years the library has undergone an extensive programme of redevelopment to ensure it continues to be a world-leading facility.

The Library consistently performs well in student polls and surveys and was runner-up in the UK in 2009’s THE Student Experience poll. Students also voted it the best Library resource in Scotland in 2009’s National Student Survey (NSS).

As well as extensive physical redevelopments, including the recent refurbishment of the Level 3 annexe, the Library has also invested in improving the provision of its digital services, available online.

The submission to the THE Leadership and Management Awards emphasised how staff have worked hard on 'embedding services into community-driven, networked social spaces, via blogs, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.' Through a range of new services, such as ‘Library on Demand’, information about the Library and its services are readily available in a variety of digital formats to University staff and students alike.
