'Stramash' Book Launch, Monday 6 December 2004

In recent years the postgraduate creative writing programme at the University of Glasgow has produced an impressive crop of prize-winning authors: Rachel Seiffert, Louise Welsh, Anne Donovan and Zo→ Strachan amongst many others.

This year's anthology of writers entitled 'Stramash' features the best short stories, poems and novel extracts from over twenty talented and up and coming writers currently on the course, displaying new voices that are dark, joyful, humorous and angry. Whether dating an alien or tolerating a guest who has stayed past his welcome, this wide and varied selection is guaranteed to surprise and entertain.

'An inspiring course with emphasis on the things that really matter; one to watch.' Hannah Griffith, Editor, Faber and Faber

'There's fresh and original writing to be met in the anthology. An enjoyable collection well worth the read.' Tom Leonard

Included in this year's anthology is the writing of Eunice Buchanan, a 73 year old from Lenzie who has just won the McCash Prize and the BBC Wildlife Poem Prize; and Lynsey Calderwood from Renfrew, who suffered a traumatic brain injury with severe memory loss when she was 14, and rebuilt her life through creative writing.

'Stramash' will be officially launched by Louise Welsh on Monday 6 December at The Universal on Sauchiehall Street from 6.30pm.

Stramash is printed on 75 - 100 pre cent recycled paper. It was supported by The W.M. Mann Foundation and the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust. Design and production was donated by ICP Creative Communicators.
