The Language Centre is UK winner of European Award for Languages 2003

At the recent CILT: European Award for Languages, the University of Glasgow Language Centre picked up a UK award for its provision of language courses to medical students.

Sir Trevor McDonald, broadcaster, presented the award at a ceremony held in the Italian Cultural Institute, London.

While many universities offer language courses to students of other disciplines, the University of Glasgow, as part of the IWLP (Institution Wide Language Programme) offers the opportunity for medical students to study a language module, which counts as part of their degree.

This module is run as an intensive course over five weeks, with three and half hours of tuition per day followed by the same number of hours of guided self-study.

These courses provide an excellent example of how languages support professional studies in another disciplines, thus enhancing opportunities available in the future.
