This year's event saw Edinburgh University win four out of the seven races. However, Glasgow had the consolation of counting the men's first eight among their victories, winning the flagship event by over two lengths. Although the crews crossed stations as they negotiated the bends, the umpires allowed the result to stand as the two-length margin was not affected by the manoeuvres.

The women's first eight proved to be the closest run race, with Edinburgh emerging winners by no more than three-quarters of a length. The lead changed hands more than once down the course as both coxes steered courses round the bends to give their crews the best chance of winning.
