Local primary school children to be awarded for winning art entries at the Weiper's Centre for Equine Welfare on Thursday 12th June 2003.

Artistic children from local primary schools who entered an art competition at Glasgow University Vet School as part of last month's National Pet Week, will be presented with their prizes at the Weiper's Centre for Equine Welfare, Garscube Estate, at 4.30 pm on Thursday 12th June 2003.

Over 300 entries on the theme of Responsible Pet Ownership were received from primary schools throughout Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire. The winners have been invited to the Vet School to meet the Dean, Professor Andrea Nolan, who will present them with rosettes and plaques for the winning schools. After this, they will then be given a tour of the school by competition organiser, Dr Karen MacEachern.

'National Pet Week is an invaluable way of promoting responsible pet ownership, showing the great value people derive from their relationship with their pets and also demonstrating the importance of animal health professionals and related services,' explained Professor Nolan.

'We were delighted with the very high standard of entries which showed that the children really had taken these messages on board.'

The winning children are from the following schools:

KILLERMONT PRIMARY

MILNGAVIE PRIMARY

MILLERSNEUK PRIMARY, Lenzie

KELVINHAUGH PRIMARY
