MONTREAL-GLASGOW: An interdisciplinary conference 1-2 March 2003

Glasgow University to host a conference that will explore and celebrate the culture, history and architecture of Montreal and draw upon the similarities and links that this Canadian city holds with Glasgow

Over two days full of activities, Glasgow University's French Department is to host a conference that will explore and celebrate the culture, history and architecture of Montreal and draw upon the similarities and links that this Canadian city holds with Glasgow.

With a programme of activities that will appeal to a wide-ranging audience this conference will cross a spectrum of topics from a comparison of urban planning in Glasgow and Montreal to a retrospective look back at the gay and lesbian movement in the Canadian City. The event will also offer an opportunity to hear academics and experts speak about the Urban novel, contemporary and historical cinema and even a comparison of Les Belles-Soeurs/The Guid Sisters and The Steamie. There will also be readings by writers including James Kelman and Jean-Fran￧ois Chassay.
