Archive exhibition at the Visitor Centre during Archive Awareness Month

Archives are everywhere during September's Archive Awareness Month and this is certainly the case in the colourful exhibition posters on display at the entrance to the University of Glasgow's Visitor Centre, off University Avenue. During the month, Glasgow University Archive Services (GUAS) are displaying examples of the sheer wealth of treasures that they hold and the ways in which archives illuminate the past and present.

"As well as validating the decisions and actions taken by the University of Glasgow throughout its 550 years of existence and providing rich research resources for academics and students, Glasgow University Archive Services also enables local communities, family historians and enthusiasts from around the world to discover the unknown", explained Lesley Richmond, University Archivist. "The rich collections of information that we hold within the Scottish Business Archives and the University Archives covers a very wide range of world and local history"

The material on display demonstrates this comment as the posters bring to life a wide variety of communities - industrial and academic. These range from Shipbuilding on the Clyde, Japan and Glasgow, Scottish Whisky and Beer, and Railways to the University of Glasgow and local communities - Govan, Hillhead, Partick and Parkhead. There is indeed something for everyone in this fascinating insight into the Archives of the University of Glasgow.

The exhibition is part of events for National Archive Awareness Month.
