Prof Neil Garrod, who is running from Rome to Glasgow to celebrate 2001, has set off and is now making good progress through Italy.

Professor Neil Garrod, Dean of Law and Financial Studies, is running from Rome to Glasgow to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the founding of the University. Besides helping to raise the profile of the University, Neil is also running to raise funds for the University's 2001 Development Campaign.

Neil, inspired by legendary runner, Bruce Tullo, who ran across the USA, has run dozens of marathons all over the world, but has always wanted to undertake a major run. The celebration of the University's 11th jubilee has given him the perfect opportunity to realise his dream.

Speaking from Rome on the first day of his run, Neil reported that he is feeling great, and that the weather is fine in Italy. He said, "I'm doing well, and have only about another 7k to go to complete today's distance. I'm raring to go." The 46-year-old professor will run up to 50 miles a day to complete the 1,500 mile trip in just under two months, and expects to go through at least four pairs of running shoes.
