Sustainability [for students & staff]

The University is a signatory of the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice

Letter of commitment to the priorities of the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice

As Principal and Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the University of Glasgow, I confirm our commitment to the priority areas outlined in the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice.

The University of Glasgow fully supports the priority areas outlined in the Concordat. We will deliver against all the priorities in practice and recognise our responsibilities as a signatory, as set out in the Concordat.

By signing this concordat we recognise the need to change how we conduct research and innovation as well as promote wider solutions. We also agree to take shared action now and into the future to reduce and eliminate our own environmental impacts and emissions and achieve the transition to sustainable practices.

The University of Glasgow is working progressively towards meeting its net zero commitment by 2030. The strong vision set out in the “Glasgow Green” strategy is being enabled through an innovative Climate Neutral Estate approach that will deliver carbon neutral operations that are also climate resilient and sustainable. We are developing a range of transformational infrastructure and nature-based projects across all our campuses, collaborating in partnership with our communities, businesses and organisations. These exciting infrastructure and system change projects will significantly reduce our University and place-based emissions, in harmony with our regional natural and built environment resources. We also have a strong and expanding Sustainable Labs programme (LEAF). We recognise the need to address emissions produced by business travel, and have formed a working group with supporting policies and procedures for monitoring and reporting that enable the aims of the UKRI Concordat.

By innovating and investing in a more sustainable future, the University is confident that it can proactively support this exciting national concordat.

Yours sincerely,

From the Principal
