The Residence Life team are excited to host the following events during the first semester, which are open to students living in Wolfson Hall:

 

September events

 

Welcome walk: Garscube campus & local area

  • Saturday 9th September, 12pm to 1pm
  • Reception
  • Take in the sights on a scenic walk around Garscube campus and the local area.

 

Welcome game night

  • Saturday 9th September, 8pm to 10pm
  • Common Room
  • Break the ice with your new neighbours with our collection of board games, video games, and table tennis.

 

Welcome social

  • Thursday 14th September, 8pm to 10pm
  • Common Room
  • Get introduced to the 2023-24 Wolfson Hall community at this speed friending social.

 

Welcome talk

  • Sunday 17th September, 2pm to 3pm
  • Lecture Theatre, Kelvin Conference Centre, Wolfson Hall
  • An essential induction session with important information to help you get the most out of your stay in halls.

Welcome movie night

  • Sunday 17th September, 8pm to 10pm
  • Common Room
  • Relax, enjoy some tasty cinema snacks, and unwind with a film themed around going away to university.

 

Craft Club: pottery painting

  • Thursday 21st September, 8pm to 9:30pm
  • Dining Hall
  • Get creative and paint a pottery masterpiece to brighten up your room.

 

October events

 

Workshop: budgeting and student discounts

  • Sunday 1st October, 8pm to 9pm
  • Common Room
  • Create a budget and learn how to make your money go further, including ways to save as a student.

 

Game night

  • Saturday 7th October, 8pm to 10pm
  • Common Room
  • An evening of fun and friendly competition with our collection of board games, video games, and table tennis.

 

Social: hide and seek

  • Saturday 14th October, 8pm to 9pm
  • Reception
  • One of the best things about the layout of Wolfson Hall is that it is perfect for a game of hide and seek. Plan your best hiding spots and see if you can win!

 

Craft Club: pumpkin carving

  • Saturday 21st October, 8pm to 9:30pm
  • Dining Hall
  • Get into the spirit of spooky season by carving a pumpkin for Halloween. There will be carving tools at the event, plus LED candles for you to safely light up your lantern.

Reslife Adventure: Edinburgh City and Edinburgh Dungeon

  • Sunday 29th October, 9am to 4:30pm (approx)
  • Pick up point: Main Gates, University Avenue
  • Tickets: Edinburgh City & Dungeon 
  • Tickets: Edinburgh City only
  • Booking deadline: Friday 6th October
  • Spend the day in our nation's enchanting capital city where you can explore the medieval Old Town, the Royal Mile, and other gems. You can also visit the National Museum of Scotland or spend the day checking out the wealth of shops and restaurants on offer.
    With Halloween approaching, you also have the option to add on a spooky underground journey through the city's darkest history at Edinburgh Dungeon, featuring live actors, theatrical sets, and thrilling rides.

 

November events

 

Workshop: presentations with Canva

  • Wednesday 1st November, 8pm to 9pm
  • Kelvin Conference Centre, Wolfson Hall (TBC)
  • Level up your presentations and visual projects with Canva, a free-to-use online graphic design tool. Bring a laptop or tablet and create an eye-catching and professional looking design, all while gaining tips for developing your presenting skills.

 

Game night: escape room challenge

  • Tuesday 7th November, 8pm to 9pm
  • Common Room
  • Challenge yourself with an epic escape room-style game and see if you can beat the clock and your neighbours!

 

Social: quiz night

  • Tuesday 14th November, 8pm to 9pm
  • Common Room
  • Test your knowledge and quick thinking at our quiz night, where prizes and bragging rights await the smartest minds!

 

Craft Club: Bob Ross painting

  • Tuesday 21st November, 8pm to 9:30pm
  • Dining Hall
  • Channel your inner artist and try to keep up with a Bob Ross Painting tutorial for a night of happy little trees and creative bliss!

  • Step back in time to the royal court of Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most historically and architecturally significant sites.

Workshop: mindfulness and relaxation

  • Friday 1st December, 8pm to 9pm
  • Kelvin Conference Centre, Wolfson Hall (TBC)
  • Take some time out from deadlines to relax with a guided meditation session and a selection of calming teas and refreshments.

  • Experience the enchantment of Edinburgh's Christmas Market, where festive magic comes to life with twinkling lights, delicious treats, fun carnival rides, ice skating, and unique gifts!

 

Game night: inter-halls table tennis tournament

  • Postponed until semester 2
  • Murano Street Student Village
  • Can you take home the trophy for Wolfson? Enter our first annual inter-halls table tennis tournament and represent the residence against the other UofG halls! If you'd like to take part, contact wolfson-RL@glasgow.ac.uk

Social: cosy festive movie night

  • Thursday 14th December, 8pm to 10pm

  • We're rounding off the semester with a comfy, cosy movie night. Bring your warmest hoodie or fuzziest blanket and enjoy hot chocolate and a festive film.
