Student Wellbeing Team Service Agreement
The Student Wellbeing Team are comprised of Wellbeing Officers, Student Support Assistants and Extenuating Circumstances Assistants. The Team are here to advise, provide information and guidance, and to signpost to support within and external to the University.
We will meet with you to establish the issues you are having and to discuss actions for you to start resolving them. After our meeting we will email you with a summary of what was discussed and the actions you may wish to take.
Wellbeing Officers can:
- Discuss your wellbeing concerns with you.
- Help you prioritise issues affecting your ability to engage with your studies.
- Help you to identify actionable steps you can take to improve your situation.
- Meet with you on an ongoing basis until your situation is resolved or improves.
- Support you in accessing University policies and procedures, such as Interruption of Studies or requesting a Carer’s plan.
- Arrange meetings between you and other areas of the University, such as academic departments or other support services
Student Support Assistants can:
- Signpost to University support such as Disability Services, Counselling Services, The Careers Service, and Student Learning Development. This can be for things like study support and self-help resources.
- Explain University procedures relating to studies, particularly where your studies have been affected by your health and wellbeing.
- Signpost you to external resources that may be of support.
- Refer you to one of our Wellbeing Officers for further support.
Extenuating Circumstances Assistants can:
- Answer questions about the extenuating circumstances process.
- Troubleshoot issues with the extenuating circumstances platform.
- Advise on types of acceptable evidence.
Role of the Wellbeing Team
Please note that while we can help guide you, we are not academic advisors, nor are we trained counsellors. If the level of advice or support requested goes beyond the level of service we are trained to provide, we will recommend other specialist agencies or practitioners.
Privacy
Your conversations with our Team are private within appropriate boundaries. With your permission, some of the information you share may be passed on to other appropriate members of staff, strictly on a need-to-know basis, to ensure we can provide coordinated support. If you are on a professional programme (such as Medicine, Nursing, Vet Med, Teacher Training etc), we have an obligation to share certain information with your School. We will explain this to you as part of our conversation. In accepting this agreement, you give permission for this to happen as appropriate.
Duty of Care
If we are concerned for your safety or another's safety (such as in an emergency) we have a duty of care to escalate our concerns to appropriate services. From a legal basis, if staff believe that you or a third party is at serious risk, the member of staff may share your information directly, irrespective of your permission.
