If you’re getting a new phone, please be aware that you will need to use your old phone to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your new device. Don’t throw it away until you’ve set up MFA!
Visit the UofG Information Security webpage for instructions.
If you have a new phone and no longer have access to the old one, you will need to send an email to UofG Helpdesk or call 0141 330 4800.
This could leave you unable to access UofG services for a short time while Reach Out IT experts reset your account. Please note that during busy times, including the start of semester, it may take longer than usual to reset your account.
What is Multi-Factor Authentication?
MFA is a method of confirming your identity when accessing UofG systems using a combination of two different factors:
- Something you know: your username and password
- Something you have: your device(s) - smartphone and/or table
The second layer of security protects your account so that even if someone else obtains your password, they are unlikely to also have your second step, e.g. your smartphone. Find out more about Multi-Factor
Don’t forget, MFA is mandatory to access UofG systems: don’t get yourself locked out!
