Students' Representative Council Student-Led Events

Throughout October, the SRC will be working with students, clubs, societies, and University partners to host a programme of events and activities. From discussions and workshops to food, music, and film, we want to create spaces where our community can come together to connect, learn, and celebrate.

Black History Month isn’t just about looking back – it’s also about looking forward, challenging inequality, and amplifying Black voices on campus and in wider society. We encourage all students to take part, whether by joining events, sharing experiences, or simply learning more.

University of Glasgow Events & Opportunities

This October, the University of Glasgow will join the UK-wide celebration of Black History Month 2025 under the powerful theme "Standing Firm in Power and Pride." This theme reflects the resilience, strength, and enduring commitment of Black communities to progress and justice. It is a call to value the remarkable contributions of Black leaders, activists, and creatives who have shaped history and continue to inspire future generations. Throughout the month, we honour important milestones like the 60th anniversary of the Race Relations Act and the legacy of those who fought for racial equality.

We invite all staff and students to engage with our programme of events, including the Black History Month keynote lecture with Professor Jason Arday on Friday 10th October at 2pm, followed by poetry by CJ Adebayo and performances by Dr Tawona Sithole that celebrate Black culture and identity.

The Black History Month event is organised by the Equality and Diversity Unit in collaboration with the Global Majority Network, supported by the Ferguson Bequest, honouring the legacy of promoting the social and inclusive spirit of university life. If you would like further information, please contact EDI Policy Adviser Dr Nighet Riaz, Nighet.Riaz@glasgow.ac.uk

Further Black History Month events are taking place across the university and across Scotland. Details can be found on the CRER website and on our event pages.
