International Taster visits

Note: applications are now closed and applicants will be notified shortly as to whether or not they have been successful.

For the first time this academic year, students from across the four colleges will have the opportunity to enjoy a part or fully funded European trip to a partner University early 2016. Perhaps you haven’t been abroad before, or the thought of applying for a full semester, or year, of study abroad is a bit daunting.  Well, why not give it a try and apply for a place on one of our new International Taster Visits?

Who can apply?

  • You have to be a registered first degree student currently in Year 1 of your studies
  • Students in the Schools of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry are not eligible

What is on offer?

  • A one or two night trip to a European partner institution
  • The chance to meet Glasgow students currently studying in the host university
  • An opportunity to chat about student life, have a tour of the campus and sit in on a lecture
  • The experience of meeting staff in a partner university
  • The chance to sample the atmosphere of a European city and university

Where can I go?

You will be allocated a place on a trip to one of our existing European partners.  You could go to:

  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden

… or one of many others!

How much will it cost me?

We have over 100 places available, either part or fully funded, by the University and Scottish Government.

Fully funded places will cover the cost of your:

  • Return flight
  • Accommodation, transport and meals in the host country

Part funded places will not cover the cost of your flight.

In either case, you will be responsible for your own travel insurance and any additional spending money.

Deadline and what are the dates?

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday 16 November 2015.

The trips are expected to take place January - April 2016.

Trips and places will be allocated according to a range of criteria based on the information you include in your application and other internal University data. We reserve the right to decide how the places will be allocated. Trip itineraries and activities will vary, depending on the institution visited. You may be asked for a deposit and a code of conduct will apply. You will be accompanied by at least one member of staff and a mix of students from eligible Schools.

Students with no previous experience of travelling abroad are particularly encouraged to apply.
