Student Enterprise has moved its range of practical and informative workshops online for the 2020/2021 academic year. Events are updated here regularly and further information can be found about upcoming events further down this page. 

Numbers of attendees are limited, but sessions are repeated throughout the academic year. These workshops are interactive and cover a number of topics:

Start Up Funding Landscape Workshop - March 17th 2021

Are you interested in exploring sources of funding for start-ups? Join us and three expert panel members to find out more about the options currently available in Scotland and what you should consider before deciding which route is right for your business.

Our panel of experts for this session will be Euan Ferries, Associate Director Corporate Advisory, Martin Aitken & Co Ltd, Alan Donald, Area Manager, LINC Scotland and Iain Mackie, Scottish Investor Lead at The Creator Fund. Subjects under discussion will include:

  • What is required when pulling together a decent business plan to be able to get funding
  • Grant funding in the current climate and post COVID
  • The current investment landscape and the types of businesses investors are still keen to invest in
  • Crowdfunding as an alternative to investment
  • The Creator Fund – investment funding specifically for start-ups coming from Universities

Speaker Profiles:

Euan Ferries, Associate Director Corporate Advisory, Martin Aitken & Co Ltd

Euan has over 25 years corporate finance experience which includes advising clients on transactions such as acquisitions and disposals, due diligence and working with start-ups and growing businesses in areas such as business planning and sourcing growth funding.  A Chartered Accountant, Euan also has valuable experience gained out with the profession which allowed him to understand first-hand the commercial challenges which businesses can face and the importance of cash flow in business.

 

Alan Donald, Area Manager, Linc Scotland

Alan joined TSB as a graduate trainee, where he worked for 23 years, focussing mainly on commercial banking. He took VR in 2010 and did running coaching for a couple of years, which he continues to a lesser degree. He Joined LINC Scotland as Area Manager, responsible for the East of Scotland. The role involves liaising with the syndicates who are members of LINC, interacting with the professional firms which act in the angel investment arena, but mainly providing information to early stage founders who are considering selling equity to raise capital”.

 

Iain Mackie, Creator Fund

Iain is the Scottish Lead Investor at Creator Fund. Iain previously worked in Quantitative Trading and Asset Management for four years before founding a successful e-commerce start-up that supports one of the UK's fastest growing brands. Iain holds an MA in Applied Economics, an MSc in Data Science, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Machine Learning / Information Retrieval.


Unpreneur Inter-University Bootcamp

This 6 week Inter-University Start-Up Bootcamp will be made up of 6 engaging, interactive and fun practical sessions, designed to help students and graduates super charge progress on an existing or pre-start business idea. 

Led by professionals from Unpreneur in collaboration with 7 other Universities, is a great opportunity for you to develop a wide range of skills and network with like-minded students and graduates from across the United Kingdom.

Business Start Up Summer Workshops 2021

The Start-Up Summer Workshop Programme 2020 saw us take the full offering online for the very first time. Delivered througout June and August featuring a range of speakers on topics including
