If your grades have already been released (EAGR)

Part of the Extenuating Circumstances Policy

If your grades have already been released and you were unable to make an EC claim in time, you may exceptionally still be able to make an Extenuating Circumstances After Grade Release (EAGR) claim.

EAGR is for students whose circumstances would have supported an EC claim, but who could not submit the claim before their grades were released. The requirements for this are higher than for a claim that was on time: you must show both that your circumstances would have justified a claim, and that there was a very good reason you could not claim before your grades were released. The later you claim, the  more information and evidence you will need to provide about why you could not claim earlier. We encourage you to speak to your School, the Wellbeing Team or the SRC Advice Centre first, so you understand whether this route fits your situation.

The absolute deadline for an EAGR claim is before your award is formally conferred (for example, at graduation).

How it works:

  1. Submit a claim through the Extenuating Circumstances Portal, choosing the option for EC after grade release, with your evidence and your reasons for the delay.
  2. The Wellbeing team will review your claim and evidence.
  3. If the claim meets the EC criteria it will be considered by a Senate Assessor for Extenuating Circumstances, who will primarily check the reasons why the claim was so late.
  4. If it is approved, your School updates your record, normally within 10 working days.

If an EAGR claim is accepted, the affected grade will be replaced with an EC outcome and you will normally be offered a new first attempt at the coursework or exam. An EAGR claim cannot be used to increase an existing grade.

If you submit an EAGR claim for an assessment which is the subject of an active Student Conduct case, or which has a penalty applied to it by a Student Conduct case, the appropriate way forward will be discussed between the Senate Assessors for Student Conduct and the Senate Assessors for Extenuating Circumstances.
