Overview of The Global Talent Visa
The Global Talent visa route enables organisations such as the University of Glasgow to attract and retain highly skilled and promising individuals, including academics, researchers, and technical specialists across a wide range of fields such as science, engineering, medicine, social sciences, and the humanities.
The application process typically consists of two stages:
1 - Endorsement: Obtaining endorsement from an approved or relevant endorsing body.
2 - Visa Application: Applying for permission to enter or remain in the UK within three months of receiving the endorsement.
Key Features of the Global Talent Visa
One of the key advantages of the Global Talent visa is the level of flexibility it provides. Unlike many other UK immigration routes, it does not require employer sponsorship, giving applicants greater independence and control over their professional activities in the UK.
Minimal Requirements: there is no minimum salary threshold, ATAS requirement, or English language requirement at the initial application stage*.
Career Flexibility: affords the flexiblity to change employers or roles, pursue self-employment or consultancy work, and establish spin-out companies.
Visa Duration: applicants can choose the length of their visa, ranging from 1 to 5 years.
Accelerated Settlement: Eligible applicants under certain fast-track routes may qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain after just 3 years.
Lower Visa Fees: the standard fee for a Global Talent Visa is £766 excluding the Immigration Health Surcharge.
Dependants: Eligible dependants can accompany or join the main applicant in the UK.
Important Information
*While there is no English language requirement for the initial Global Talent visa application, applicants will typically need to demonstrate their English language ability when applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Stage 1 - Endorsement Application
Stage 1 of the UK Global Talent visa process requires applicants to submit a mandatory endorsement application to a UKVI-approved endorsing body, which will assess whether the relevant eligibility criteria for the chosen route have been met.
The Stage 1 endorsement is not a visa application and does not extend an applicant's UK immigration permission. If your permission is expiring soon, you may submit Stage 1 and Stage 2 applications together, but you must contact the Staff UKVI Team in advance.
For most applicants, it is recommended to wait until you receive the outcome of your endorsement application before proceeding with the Stage 2 visa application.
The endorsing body you apply to will depend on the specific route you are using.

Application Process
As part of the application, you will be asked a series of questions, including selecting the Global Talent visa endorsement route you wish to apply under.
Once completed, the online system will generate a checklist of supporting documents and prompt you to pay the endorsement application fee.
The Home Office will send your application to the relevant endorsing body for review, and you will be notified directly of the outcome. Applicants applying via a fast‑track route typically receive a decision within two weeks, while those applying through peer review can expect a decision within 5 to 8 weeks.
Stage 2 - Visa Application
Once you have received your endorsement, you can submit your Stage 2 visa application.
If applying to switch to the Global Talent route or extend your stay from within the UK, you must ensure that your Stage 2 application is submitted before the expiry of your current visa.
The application is completed online through a series of questions, after which a personalised checklist of required supporting documents will be generated.
You will also be required to pay the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). Following this, you will either:
- book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre to submit your documents and enrol your biometrics (fingerprints and a digital photograph), or
- if eligible, use the UK Immigration: ID Check app to verify your identity.
Applicants outside the UK must submit their application from their home country or from a country where they have permission to reside for at least six months.

Travelling to the UK
Your visa will show a start and end date. You must travel to the UK on or after the visa start date.
If you enter the UK before your visa becomes valid, you will be admitted as a visitor and will not have permission to work. To activate your visa, you would need to leave and re-enter the Common Travel Area (CTA).
You should also travel within the validity period of your visa and avoid booking travel until you have received your visa decision.
It may be possible to switch into the Global Talent visa route from within the UK, provided that you meet all the eligibility requirements of this visa category.
However, you will not be able to switch into the Global Talent route if you currently hold permission in any of the following categories:
- Visitor; Short-term Student; Parent of a Child Student; Seasonal Worker; Domestic Worker in a Private Household; Permission granted outside the Immigration Rules.
