Overtime
In all cases, overtime must be authorised in advance by the Head of School/Service or an authorised deputy.
All employees, irrespective of job family employed up to and including grade 5 will be eligible to receive overtime payments for hours worked in excess of 35 hours per week in accordance with the table outlined below:-

For part-time staff to be eligible for overtime rates of pay they must have worked in excess of 35 hours per week.
The University is committed to reducing the overall requirement and need for overtime working. Whilst there may continue to be a need for additional hours to be worked, there is a joint agreement between the University and the recognised trade unions that staff will not be required to work overtime unless contracted to do so.
For colleagues in roles graded 6 and above, a degree of flexibility is assumed but colleagues in these roles may be required to work additional hours from time to time to meet organisational needs, without extra payment. Managers should actively monitor levels of additional hours worked to ensure they are compatible with the term ‘from time to time’. Managers should also ensure appropriate rest breaks are in place and, where necessary, prompt a review of workload concerns to explore appropriate support measures.
If working additional hours extends beyond a reasonable expectation of "from time to time," colleagues should discuss this with their line manager in the first instance. In such circumstances managers should review the position and consider any reasonable alternatives such as workload distribution or potentially agreeing a degree of two-way flexibility to facilitate time off at another point.
