CoreHR - check your personal data!

Published: 8 August 2017

Help us support all staff effectively and inclusively and deliver our HESA commitments, by sharing your individual data and diversity details, through CoreHR.

Our strength as a world changing university lies with our staff and student population, and we are committed to supporting our diverse population of employees. To support our staff fully we need to understand who they are, and this is why we are requesting you check and update your personal information and diversity data on CoreHR.

In addition to providing comprehensive support internally for our staff, we also have external obligations we are required to meet through completing an annual, mandatory submission of statistics to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), reporting a range of anonymised data relating to the staff employed within the University.

How will you use my data?

Diversity data is helpful for the University as it assists us to:

  • shape our diversity strategies and policies
  • ensure we are supporting our workforce appropriately
  • identify areas of under representation and consider how to address these
  • complete and return our mandatory annual HESA return

As part of our Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED), we recently published our 2017 PSED Equality Outcomes Report, which details a range of equality-related activities we are committed to delivering between 2017 and 2021. All of our outcomes have been informed and shaped by the diversity data we have available, and cover areas ranging from improving gender equality, fostering a supportive and respectful culture and providing effective support for disabled staff and students.

Additionally, each year we are also required to provide HESA with comprehensive statistics on our staff, to ensure we comply with statutory requirements and are included in university league tables, such as those published in Times Higher Education Supplement, The Guardian and The Times. Failure to supply our statistics, or if they are of a poor quality, could therefore have a fundamental impact on our reputation, and our ability to attract students to the University.

Will my information remain confidential?

We recognise this information is of a sensitive nature, however all data you provide will be treated in strict confidence and in accordance with the 1998 Data Protection Act.

Only anonymised summary information will be made available to HESA based on the mandatory categories they have determined for all Scottish universities. We also share summary data with our campus Trade Unions, who we work in close partnership with on this agenda, as they share our desire to improve our data set and are supportive of this exercise.

How can I complete my data?

You can complete your data through our HR information system, CoreHR.

A brief step-by-step guide on how to access the HR system and navigate to all staff information is available on the HR website.

We kindly request that line managers, who have responsibility for staff that do not have access to IT facilities, make suitable arrangements for such staff to access the HR system and update their information accordingly.

Where can I find further information?

If you would like further information on how your diversity details are used, or any other aspect of our equality and diversity activities, please don’t hesitate to contact the Equality and Diversity Unit on equality@glasgow.ac.uk.

For more detail on our HESA return, please contact Ann Hastings, HR Operations Manager on ann.hastings@glasgow.ac.uk.

Thank you in advance of your support delivering these vital activities.
