The School of Veterinary Medicine is delighted to announce a 20% discount for all University staff pet-owners using the Small Animal Hospital referral service or Small Animal Hospital out-of-hours first opinion emergency service. Please note that the Small Animal Hospital does not have a routine first opinion day practice. In order to apply this discount a University Staff ID card must be presented on arrival at Reception in the Small Animal Hospital.
In veterinary medicine a system of referral exists similar to the relationship between GPs and specialist hospital doctors. Your vet may refer a patient to a veterinary surgeon with expertise in a specific field; if you and your vet feel that your pet has a condition which is beyond the scope of what can be reasonably achieved in general practice, then a referral is appropriate.
The out-of-hours first opinion emergency service provides an emergency service for more than 40 practices in the Glasgow area. Veterinary practices register to use this service. Your veterinary surgeon will able to tell if you if their practice is registered to use the Small Animal Hospital emergency service.
