Distinguished academic disciplines brought together under new enhanced structure

The School of Psychology and the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology have merged to become the new School of Psychology and Neuroscience, within MVLS.

Professor Iain McInnes, Vice-Principal and Head of College of MVLS, wrote to all MVLS staff  to outline these changes.

Dear Colleagues,

I am delighted to share with you some very exciting news for our College.

Neuroscience and Psychology are strong academic disciplines at the University of Glasgow. This activity has for the last decade been organised across two Colleges - the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) and the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE). Whilst this joint working has been valuable in underpinning ongoing successes, recent reviews identified that a more unified organisational structure would now be beneficial.

Further to consultation with all staff in the Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology (within MVLS) and in the School of Psychology (within CoSE) and approval by both College Management Groups, University Senior Management Group and University Court, the Institute and the School have now come together in a combined academic unit - the School of Psychology and Neuroscience - within MVLS, since the academic direction of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University is well aligned with MVLS. Such reorganisation will enable consolidation, growth and development across teaching, research and innovation.

I am extremely grateful to all colleagues who engaged with the consultation and look forward to the undoubted rewards to follow from this new enhanced structure.

Warmest welcome to all colleagues now joining the MVLS family!

Best wishes,

Iain
