University Court has approved plans for the Research Hub - the first permanent new building on the Western campus. VIDEO

The Research Hub will be the first permanent new building on the Western campus – the former Western Infirmary site. It is seen as a demonstration of the University’s commitment to creating an intellectual magnet for staff, research students and external collaborators at the core of the campus development.

University Court last week gave its approval for detailed plans for the Research Hub. This will now allow the University to submit these plans for planning approval by Glasgow City Council – a major milestone in the University’s campus development programme.

Housing approximately 600 academics, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, the hub will create a free-thinking, collaborative environment to attract, stimulate and enable interdisciplinary and world-changing research. It will engage and connect the University with research partners, industry, the City of Glasgow and global communities. It is due to open in late 2020.

The University is hosting a community engagement event on October 24 at which senior members of the University will outline plans for the Research Hub to members of the local community. Our main contractor for the development, Multiplex, will also give details of its plans for the campus development programme; it is due to begin its contract at the end of October.
