More than 250 alumni gathered in Beijing and Shanghai for an Adam Smith Business School Alumni Careers Seminar.

After the huge success of the inaugural Adam Smith Business School Career Seminars in 2014, we returned to China at the end of April this year to host the second series, writes Dr Xiang Li, Regional Alumni Manager for the Adam Smith Business School

The events brought more than 250 alumni together in Beijing and Shanghai on 28 and 30 April. As with last year, our most recent alumni received first hand advice from our specially invited guests regarding navigating their early careers. More experienced alumni enjoyed the reunion with the University and fellow alumni.

Miss Yao Zhang (MSc 2012, International Banking and Finance) talked about her views on working in different roles within a foreign bank. This presentation helped those interested in working in banks match their personal interests, strengths and ambitions with the practicalities of what each role entails.

Miss Jiao Shi (MSc 2004, Management with Enterprise and Business Growth) shared her career path and offered valuable suggestions to alumni in the early stages of their career.

‌We also had the honour of hearing from two other notable alumni, Mr Marco Gasparroni (Regional Director of Exprivia, China) and Mr Lawrence Jin (Audit Partner, Deloitte, Shanghai).

Mr Gasparroni discussed ‘Strategic patterns for competing in the digital age’ and Mr Lawrence reflected on his post-Glasgow career path.

Our Vice Principal (Internationalisation), Professor Jim Conroy, and the Head of our School, Professor Jim Love, also attended this event.

They awarded the first ever ‘Certificates of Appreciation’ to our wonderful Alumni Association Board members in Beijing and Shanghai.
