The University was proud to co-sponsor TEDxGlasgow which took place at the Tramway in Glasgow’s Southside on Friday 12th June, showcasing the best and most innovative ideas and perspectives from across Scotland, writes Emma Gilmartin, Social & Digital Media Manager, Communications Office.
Speakers who stood on the famous red circle included the University's Jim Brewer, Chair of Basic Immunology in the Institute of Infection, Immunity & Inflammation who compared the workings of the immune system to finding love.
Other speakers included world cyclist and UofG alumnus Mark Beaumont, who championed the creation of a culture where young people make real choices about their futures based on their passions and skills. We also heard from tennis coach Judy Murray who shared insights into her work in grass roots tennis – we particularly liked her slide of Andy Murray as a young boy with a swing ball!
Facebook hits 100K
If Friday wasn’t exciting enough – we were delighted to reach a major milestone on Facebook hitting the 100,000 mark. Social and Digital Media Manager Emma Gilmartin told E News "We were thrilled to get to 100,000 ‘friends’ last week – almost doubling our numbers in the last 18 months. Our engagement levels have been fantastic, often rivalling the big hitters like Oxford University and Harvard who have millions of fans”.
