The University of Glasgow is awarding 19 honorary doctorates this summer.

Honorary degrees will be awarded to individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds including science, education, LGBT rights, sport and business.

Among those accepting honorary degrees will be athlete Dame Tanni Grey Thompson; Executive Director of Sexual Minorities, Dr Frank Mugisha; and Founder and Managing Director of the Glasgow-based WEST – Brewery, Bar and Restaurant, Petra Wetzel.

The 19 new awards are in addition to two other honorary degrees that were presented to Alex Salmond MP and Gordon Brown earlier this year.

Seven of this summer’s honorary doctorates will be awarded at the University of Glasgow’s annual Commemoration Day on 17 June, which celebrates the foundation in 1451. They will also be awarded at graduation ceremonies throughout June.
