University stages Big Debate

BBC Scotland broadcast their radio "Big Debate" live from the Senate Room as the University returned to work after the Christmas and New Year holiday.

BBC Scotland broadcast their radio "Big Debate" live from the Senate Room as the University returned to work after the Christmas and New Year holiday.

The show was hosted by the news and current affairs presenter Gordon Brewer and featured a panel of five speakers representing the main parties:

  • Margaret Curran MP, Labour's Shadow Scottish Secretary
  • Sandra White MSP, Scottish National Party
  • Dr Katherine Trebeck, Oxfam - Global Research Policy Adviser
  • Andy Mciver, PR and Communications and former head of communications for the Scottish Conservatives

The programme ran for an hour between 12 noon and 1 pm. You can still catch the broadcast on the BBC iPlayer Radio.  

The topics featured during the lively debate covered the terrorist incidents in France and issues of freedom of speech, the winter pressures on the National Health Service and the impact on the Scottish economy of the plunging price of oil.
