University of Glasgow student and staff success at Royal National Mod 2013

The Royal National Mòd, Scotland's premier Gaelic festival of language, arts and culture was held in Paisley last week.

Chaidh am Mòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail a chumail an t-seachdain sa chaidh ann am Pàislig, far an robh oileanaich agus luchd-obrach Oilthigh Ghlaschu an sàs, agus gu dearbh soirbheachail, ann an tòrr fharpaisean.

Gu h-ìosal, gheibhear fiosrachadh air mar a chaidh dhaibh agus tha sinn an dòchas gun do chòrd an t-seachdain riutha uile!

Turralaich  - Còmhlan an Oilthighe fo stiùir Shona Masson, a fhuair an dàrna àite ann am farpais nan còmhlan. Ghabh iad òran a chaidh a sgrìobhadh le Robbie MacLeòid, Cumha.

Robbie MacLeòid a bhuannaich duais litreachais airson Òran Ùr Gàidhlig. Sgrìobh Robbie òran brèagha air a bheil an t-ainm ‘Cumha’.

Robert MacDhonnchaidh, oileanach san treas bliadhna a bhuannaich Bonn Òir a' Chomuinn Gàidhealaich còmhla ri Eilidh Rothach, oileanach aig Oilthigh Dhùn Èideann.

Mealaibh ur naidheachd cuideachd do Ruairidh Mac an t-Saoir a fhuair gu ìre na cuairt-deireannach ann am farpais a' Bhuinn Òir agus Georgina Durie a bha a' seinn san fharpais mhòr, Bonn Òir an t-Seann Nos.

Agus meal a naidheachd sònraichte don Ollamh Pòl Younger airson ìre na cuairt-deireannaich a ruighinn anns a' Bhuinn Airgid aig seo a' chiad Mhòd Nàiseanta aig an robh e a’ seinn leis fhèin.

The Royal National Mòd, Scotland's premier Gaelic festival of language, arts and culture was held in Paisley last week and we are delighted that many GU staff and students enjoyed great success in the many competitions that make up this wonderful celebration of Gaelic culture.

Below is an outline of some of their achievements and we hope that all who took part enjoyed the experience.

The University folkgroup, Turralaich under the direction of Shona Masson, were placed second in the folkgroup competition on Thursday. The group performed a beautiful song written by Robbie MacLeod.

Robbie MacLeod won the new Gaelic Song competition for his song, Cumha.

Robert Robertson, a third year GU student, won the men's Gold Medal along with Eilidh Munro, who is a student at the University of Edinburgh.

Congratulations also to Ruairidh MacIntyre who reached the final of the men's Gold Medal and to Georgina Durie who was competing in the very prestigious Traditional Gold Medal competition. Also a special congratulations to Professor Paul Younger who reached the final stages of the Silver Pendant competition for Gaelic learners. A real achievement at this his first National Mòd as a soloist!
