Request Digitised Readings

As part of Reading Lists @ Glasgow we offer a scanning service providing copyright-compliant digitisations from texts that will be in heavy demand for course use. The extracts must be for a particular course of study and are made available for the duration of the course through Reading Lists @ Glasgow.

This service is provided under the University’s Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) licence. Under the terms of the licence, we are permitted to scan one chapter or up to 10% from a book, or one article or up to 10% from a journal issue. Please note that there are certain works that maybe excluded for scanning by the publisher.

To make a digitisation request

To add a digitisation request while bookmarking your resource, type the required digitisation details in the Note for Library box.

For an existing item in your list, locate the title you wish to digitise from, select the 3 dots on the right-hand side of the resource and choose Note for library from the drop-down menu.

Enter the details of the request into the Note for Library box, then choose Save. Please include as much information as possible (e.g., chapter title, page numbers, author).

If you require digitisation of multiple chapters or pages from the same title, please prioritise your requests and add this information to the Note for library box along with page numbers and chapter details. It may not be possible to provide multiple chapters or pages from the same title as there are limits set by the CLA (Copyright Licencing Agency) on how much we can digitise from a title.  Adding page numbers and chapter details will help the Library to prioritise requests.

Send the list for Review (see Publish your list and Request review section) so that the Library receives your requests. The Library conducts copyright checks to ensure the book or journal is covered for scanning under the CLA licence. If the checks are fine, the digitised extract will be accessible via the View Online button in the reading list. A digitised reading will have the chapter details and available online as a student note.
