The LGBTQ+ Staff Network at the University of Glasgow affirms our unwavering support for our trans, non-binary and intersex colleagues, students, and wider community. We believe that trans people deserve to work, study, and live with safety and dignity. In light of the recent internal consultation, EHRC consultation, and the Supreme Court ruling, we recognise that public discourse around trans rights has been distressing, draining and isolating, positioning trans rights as a topic of debate, rather than an undeniable human right.

The Network continues to affirm that trans rights are human rights and is committed to driving the University to remain a welcoming and equitable place to work for people of all genders. Trans people should be able to access spaces, participate in networks, and move through the world in line with their lived genders. We oppose any suggestions that trans people should be denied the ability to do so, or be segregated into third spaces.

We will continue to advocate for robust policies and practices at the University that protect trans people from harassment and privacy breaches, upholding the inclusion of trans people across campus while challenging stigma, and promoting awareness and allyship.

We are proud to work amongst a community of LGBTQ+ colleagues who continue to create a campus culture where trans and non-binary people feel seen, valued, and safe.
